Word. 05/06/07: Vans Crew hits Mammoth for WCI Vans team riders Darrell Mathes, Scotty Arnold, Chris Grenier and the office crew went up to Mammoth May 2nd and 3rd for the 4th annual West Coast Invitational. Friday the 2nd was the Vans Fiesta de la Pipa, which incorparates jibbin and pipe riding together in a one of a kind jam format event. The weather was good and the riders had a blast sessioning the unique features that the Mammoth park Crew set up. Saturday night was the Rail Jam. Riders went crazy on the set-up tryin to capture the $10,000 cash up for grabs in the rider judged event. Big ups to Oren Tanzer and the Mammoth Park crew for doing such a good job! Also big ups to Pete Dericks and the VANS office crew for coming up and representing! Look out for a Vans podcast of the event coming soon! 04/02/08: Vans Snow Team Headed To "The Shakedown" Vans snowboard team riders Darrell Mathes, Scotty Arnold, Zac Marben and Chris Grenier are all headed up to the Montreal area to compete in this years Empire Shakedown snowboard contest going on today and tomorrow. Vans is a title sponsor of the event which consists of a street style rail jam, slopestyle and a half-time skateboarding exhibition. Mount Saint-Sauveur is the location for eastern Canada's biggest snowboard bash of the season. Also competing from Vans Snow will be Canadians Scott Shaw, Will Lavigne and many more. Check back for updates and photos from the event. 03/18/08: Wangl Tangl In Mayerhoffen, Austria Vans and the Asthetiker Crew put on the Wangl Tangl Snowboard Jam March 3-8 in Mayerhoffen, Austria. The event consists of a rider designed slopestyle course and a mini ramp skateboard contest. The event is part of the TTR World Tour and has been growing in popularity the last few years. Check out a recap of all the action! 02/29/08: Vans Snowboard Team Shines At Tahoe Cup The Vans Snowboard Team was out in full force at this years Tahoe Cup. The team represented in the competiton and had some really great results! Andreas Wig took first place in Slopestyle for the second year in a row with a flawless run that included a frontside 1080 to the bottom of the landing on the second jump! Andreas Wiig took top honors in the slopestyle portion of this year's Honda Session in Vail, Colorado. The pyrotechnics crew blasted huge flames into the nighttime sky as Andreas and the rest of the boarders hit the last jump. Now that's extreme! Also Scotty Arnold took 2nd in the Steel and Sky Rail Jam. Congrats guys! 02/07/08: Final Riders List for Tahoe Cup This is it! The final confirmed riders list has added more athletes and Chris Coulter, Chad Otterstrom and Cheryl Mass have just been added to the mix. Check out who else will be battling at this year's Tahoe Cup. 02/07/08: Wolle's Winning Speech See how it all went down for Wolle at the Rider Poll Awards and his interview with FUEL TV. 02/04/08: Wolle Wins Transworld Snowboarding's "Rider of the Year" Austrian Wolle Nyvelt has been killing it for years, and now someone finally gave him props! Wolle has been filming with Absinthe films for the last couple seasons and recently graced the covers of both Snowboarder and Future Magazines. Look out for Wolle to have a stellar part in the new Absinthe film "Ready," due out in late summer/early fall 08'. Check out more on the Riders Poll Award Show. 01/28/08: Andreas Wiig Wins Winter X GOLD!! Thats right, Andreas Wiig won Winter X Games gold in the slopestyle competition on Saturday!! Making it a repeat from last year, Andreas blew thew the doors off the competition. Stomping his first run perfectly Andreas stuck with his first run score to hold on for first place. This was definitely his strongest field of competitors ever assembled for the slope finals and he represented VANS to the fullest. Check out his gold medal run! 01/25/08: Andreas Is Nominated!! Thousands of magazine's readers got a chance to vote online for the Transworld Snowboarding Readers Choice Awards. Our very own Andreas Wiig has been nominated for Men's Reader's Choice!! Congrats Andreas! 01/25/08: Vans and Winter X The Vans Snow Team is out in Aspen Colorado at Winter X. Competing in this years X games are Andreas Wiig, Erin Comstock, Hana Beaman, Tara Dakides, Cheryll Mass and I Pod. Everybody besides Louri Podladtchikov is doing slopestyle, and word on the hill is that Andreas is handling the course with some serious control and tech tricks. Andreas also is competing in Big Air, which is an awesome display of where freestyle snowboarding is going. Louri was killing it in the halfpipe yesterday during practice and Cheryll Maas was riding well in slopestyle. So look out for the Vans Euro crew to have a strong impact in this years games! Check it out! 11/27/07: Beanies and Bikinis Vans intl. team rider Jonas Michilot and flow team riders Chad Otterstrom, Corey Noble and Chris Grenier headed down to sunny San Diego for the 3rd annual Beanies and Bikins. The set-up was sweet and the snow was fake, that usually makes for a good old fashioned jib jam. The riders were brushing off the summer rust and started to get nasty as day turned into night. As the prelims started we saw a FOX NEWS anchor woman get slammed into by a out of control snowboarder and she was carried out on a strecher (check the photos). Anyway the jibbin was cool and Jonas Michilot and Corey Noble made the finals. Both made a little money and proceeded to the Wave House for the bikini contest. Hot chicks and rails......... HOT SAUCE! 11/06/07: Andreas Wiig competes in Esurance Icer Air Nov 2nd-3rd Andreas Wiig traveled to San Francisco for the Esurance Icer Air November 2-3 and the AT&T Ballpark was the setting again for this years snowboard/ski big air contest. The jump improved from last year and it showed in the riding. Andreas was riding great and qualified for the finals after taking 3rd place. As the sun set and the finals started you could tell that stuff was about to go down!!! Andreas and Travis Rice started chuckin' double flip rodeos and set the tone for the finals. After 3 solid attempts Andreas couldn't put down the front side 1080 double cork and had to concede the victory to Travis, who completed a backside 1080 double rodeo flip double-grab. It's all "Up for Grabs" thanks to snowboardermag.com. 8/22/07: Vans Snow Team News Vans snowboard team rider Jonas Michilot won the Dew Action Sports Tour rail jam on August 18th. Jonas did lot's of different variations of super tech tricks and it proved to be enough to get 1st Place and $4000. Vans Team rider Zac Marben of Minnesota also killed it at the rail jam and took home 2nd place and $3000. Both rode the contest with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised with the strong finishes> GOOD WORK BOYS!!!! 8/13/07: Hana Takes 3rd In New Zealand Congrats to Vans teams rider Hana Beaman who placed 3rd in The New Zealand Open Womens Slopestyle. Battling the weather and the harsh course, Hana shredded her way to a strong 3rd place finish. Hana got 1st in Quarterpipe, 2nd in Slopestyle and Erin Comstock got 1st in Slopestyle.
